LONGEVITY
The photo above is from 1978 when Heart of Glass – to many the ‘perfect pop song’ – was released, age 33. The colour pic was 41 years later, age 74.
Debbie still commands the presence of the woman who transformed the face of music, with Blondie in the 70s and early 80s.
The greatest female rock star – the inspiration for many who followed – and the ultimate cult style icon. Girls wanted to be her, boys wanted to be with her.
I don't mind if my skull ends up on a shelf as long as it's got my name on it.
Debbie Harry
I remember my first ever introduction to Blondie on Top of the Pops – the UK’s weekly TV music chart show – with Denis in March of 1978.
We’d just got a colour TV, and a hideous blue carpet for the livening room. I’ve been a huge fan ever since, and the proud owner of over 100 Blondie vinyl records, and the memories of meeting her three times.
A natural performer – as many introverts actually are – there’s another Blondie album in the works, with talk of a solo album based on her memoirs, Face It… a New York Times bestseller in 2019.
And, even though I hope the subject of the quote is many, many years away, it sums up her attitude to life in a nutshell.
To explore, experiment, experience, and enjoy. To make the best of her unique gifts, and to leave a legacy.
Now that’s a Personal Leadership Brand.
