RESILIENCE
Like many of us, I’ve been binging on Netflix during lockdown, and finally got round to watching the AMAZING ‘Umbrella Academy‘. Unlike most superhero shows, the Umbrella Academy has great fun with a soundtrack that really brings the emotional rollercoaster-of-a-script to life.
Rather than choosing the music after shooting, the songs were written into the script, as part of the experience.
It is what it is, until it was what it was. So just keep on swinging', if only because-cause-cause.
Baio
The late 80’s “I Think We’re Alone Now” by Tiffany set the tone for the series, magically completing the introduction of each character, and celebrated the ‘dysfunction’ of the Hargreaves family.
My “Hey Siri, what song is this?” moment was in episode 7 of season 2, when the the upbeat, uplifting ‘Sister of Pearl’ by Baio accompanied Ben’s first possession of Klaus – it makes me chuckle just writing this.
The relevance? Yesterday was my first face-to-face (or rather mask-to-mask) mini workshop. There were too many barriers to an immersive, fun experience. Group work at a distance?
So, I never expected to ever say this, but at the moment I’m enjoying our virtual experiences more. I can get everyone together around our virtual flip charts with sticky notes… collaboration works much better.
So, what better to lift my spirits this morning than ‘Sister of Pearl’ on repeat. “It is what it is, until it was what it was”. One of my top 5 songs on my ‘lockdown soundtrack’.
